THE MUSEUM OF CRAFT

This project was to create a craft museum for the city of Asheville, North Carolina. Dealing with limitations such as zoning, code, and site space, the project provides an opportunity for students to work together in pairs and create a design that demonstrates understanding and collaboration.

The intention of this project was intertwining, which was used in a multitude of ways to create strong connections between the history of craft, the understanding of what craft is, and how it is relevant in today's society. Programmatic intertwining encouraged the creation of two structures that were connected above and below ground. This decision allowed for the structures to develop a visual connection and conversation with each other, while the large walls of facilities allow for exterior exhibitions to rotate through, connecting the museum to the community.
