DYNAMIC DAYLIGHTING

This project was to create affordable, small homes for Augusta, Maine in connection with the Augusta Housing Authority and Maine State Housing. Focusing on a specific and individual research topic, the project aims to provide insight and new ideas to those in the field.

The intention of this project was to develop dynamic spaces through the use of natural light to create feelings of embracement. This intention was based upon research focused on reducing home electric bills and utilizing natural light. This study influenced the design by helping to dictate design ideas such as fenestration placement, site locations, and materials. Additionally, the design’s openness provides opportunities to develop a community within a larger, urban community.

In the Spring of 2021, this project was chosen by the Augusta Housing Authority and Archetype Architects to act as the basis of future affordable housing development in the Augusta area.
